L'ONG américaine Global Girl Media profite de la Coupe du monde de soccer pour permettre à une vingtaine de jeunes Sud-Africaines de milieux défavorisés de faire du journalisme pour la télévision pendant un mois.

Les jeunes filles couvrent la fièvre du soccer, mais aussi de sujets tabous.

L'un de leurs reportages : la violence contre les lesbiennes, victimes de viols collectifs
« correctifs » censés les « guérir » de leur homosexualité.

[Dans le reportage, on parle de viols thérapeutiques par lesquels des jeunes hommes veulent «aider» des jeunes femmes à réfléchir à leur définition de la féminité. Dans un de ces viols collectifs, une adolescente attrapa le Sida. Dénoncer à la police ne sert à rien: ils ne croient pas à l'homosexulalité et pourraient aider eux-aussi la femme à changer son orientation. Ou ils ne croient pas les homosexuels qui sont des fous. L'homosexualité, comme le Sida est une invention occidentale. Étant donné les soins locaux, elle mourut.]

GlobalGirl Media seeks to address this disparity by supplying the equipment, education and support necessary to help young women become digital and blog journalists, bringing their own unique perspective on their lives, their communities and world events to the global web and social media community.

GlobalGirl Media invests in girls to become their own agents of change in bridging the gender digital divide, providing concrete skills with which to improve their personal situations. We firmly believe that working with young women around the world to find and share their authentic voice is an investment in our global future.
