A complete tragedy, but let's not forget that this is a war zone. Our soldiers, as well as soldiers of other nations, as well as Afghan soldiers and police themselves, have to deal each day with the threat of suicide bombers and the like. Do the taliban or the drug lords fret about the death of bystanders as a result of their actions? Will they be concerned about the loss of this poor girl's life? No, they will not. They will celebrate it. They will use it in their ideological war against the infidel invaders, just like the mujahadeen did against the Russians.
However, let's not confuse these thugs with freedom fighters. Their support from the local populations is through the use of inimidation and terror.
How many of those who argue against Canada's presence in Afghanistan now were decrying the lack of action by the western powers only 8 years ago.
Religious fascism, like all fascism, needs to be fought head on.
