INSURGENT ATTACK ON KANDAHAR AIRFIELD

KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan (May 22) - Kandahar Airfield came under indirect fire at approximately 8 p.m. local time tonight. Five rockets were fired at the base.
The base operations centre sounded a ground attack alarm shortly after 8 p.m. A number of insurgents were attempting to enter the base on the north side. They were repelled by security forces.
The alarm has been sounding for several hours, but no insurgents have penetrated the base perimeter.
A number of ISAF personnel and civilian workers have been injured and are receiving medical treatment. There are no confirmed fatalities.
Military personnel and civilian workers on the base are being instructed to remain in safe locations as a precaution.
